An intensive 12 day circuit in Tanzania going on safari in all the best known National Parks and seeing a wide range of eco-systems and wildlife. Visit Tarangire National Park and then onto the Ngorongoro Crater via Lake Manyara. End your safari with 4 nights in the Serengeti amidst the spectacular wildebeest migration.
Day 1: Arrival / Arusha
Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport you might be lucky and catch a glimpse of Africa’s highest peak before it slips behind the clouds. Your transfer will be waiting to take you into Arusha. Check into Arusha Home for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Early morning transfer to Nairobi Airport for your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport. Scenic transfer to Tarangire River Camp. Set within 25,000 hectares of concession area overlooking the Tarangire River. Perfectly located 3km from the main entrance to Tarangire National Park.
Day 3 & 4: Lake Manyara National Park
Scenic safari transfer to Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge high on the bluff of a dramatic cliff with views over the expanse of Lake Manyara’s gleaming alkaline waters and across the volcano-studded floor of the Great Rift Valley. Manyara is famous for its many thousands of sugar-pink Lesser Flamingos. A safari in the Manyara National Park offers breathtaking a variety of habitats. Acacia woodlands, water forests, baobab strewn cliffs, algae-streaked hot springs, swamps and the lake itself. It has the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world and the lions here are also renowned for their tree climbing!
Day 5 & 6: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Scenic safari transfer to Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. Perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist, camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers, Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is sensitively constructed and has views over the heat-shimmering reaches of the crater. At the end of a day on safari in the crater you can also follow a nature trail that loops around the lodge through moss-hung glades and plunging ravines, take a guided walk to the Crater’s rim, relax with a herbal massage, or watch as the burning sun sinks behind the mountains from the edge of the crater’s rim.
Days 7: Serengeti National Park
Your ranger will transfer you to Lake Masek Luxury Tented Camp. Enjoy a game drive in the Southern Serengeti National Park. The camp is in the Ngorongoro conservation area overlooking Lake Masek. Tents are built on a raised wooden platform with a verandah from which you can see the wildlife visiting Lake Masek.
Day 8 – 11: Serengeti National Park
Your ranger will drive you to Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge. Set high on the saddle of a tree-clad ridge, commanding panoramic views across the Serengeti, this lodge is the ultimate fusion of traditional African architecture and world-class style. The Serengeti together with Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Park form Africa’s most famous wildlife park. The image of acacia trees on an endless grass plain epitomises Africa for many, and then add a Masai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. A series of traditional domed ‘rondavels’ are widely spaced throughout the grounds, which are cooled by groves of acacia trees and watered by sparkling streams. On the very edge of the ridge is a ‘vanishing horizon’ pool, which looks out over the Serengeti plains. The annual wildebeest migration through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara is the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. Aside from traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Serengeti plains is amazing and you can also go horseback riding.
